A first look at this amazing display piece before we go into a short review:
Some additional info on the order / deal itself: Sideshow seems to give international buyers a discount on the shipping costs. I paid around 130 USD just for shipping Fedex. Fedex declared the package weight around 140 lbs, the blonde Fedex chic definately had problems taking this bad boy out of the van, so I gave her a hand of course. :) After unboxing the net weight of the batmobile is around 40 pounds.
Right now I have no clue what customs charged and what the taxes will cost, but expect to be another 100 USD. So all in all this piece will be quite costly, even if you live near to Sideshow from what I've heard.
The good
- without any doubt the best 1/6 model of the 1989 batmobile out there, sculpt and paintjob are flawless
- love the cockpit interior with LED light up feature and all the different knobs, buttons and even a Batmobile scheme / blueprint on one of the monitors
- a great canopy, slides out perfectly and you event can take it off to have enough space to fit Batman 1989 in there
- massive rubber tires including a wheel look work great
- light up feature on front, back and interior powered by 3 AA batteries
The bad
- it would have been awesome to have some metal or diecast parts on this monster
- the turntable stand is made out of plastic, which just doesn't feel massive enough to hold the batmobile securely - it works, but somehow I can't trust that thing
- I couldn't fit Batman in with his boots on, maybe somebody else got it right with enough patience - but without the boots it works quite well with some fiddling on the cape
Bro, I love the cockpit especially the dashboard with light up features and it's very nice. This is definitely the best 1/6 1989 bat mobile so far. Great collection of your 1989 Batman Series..Envy and drooling!!
ReplyDeleteGood review. Of course this is the best 1/6 1989 Batmobile out there...isn't it the only one available on this scale? I wouldn't want die cast / metal parts on it just for the sake of them being there. All of the side mechanic piping, gas caps, and rear exhausts look great being made out of plastic with metallic paint and "heat" weathering. Making them actual metal probably wouldn't have done much too the looks, but would have driven up the cost of production---and the final cost to the collector.
ReplyDeleteYou're forgetting about the elephant in the room - mass. It already has a mass of 32lbs. Die cast parts at this scale would just make it even more massive and therefore weigh far too much. As it stands, transporting it is going to be a nightmare.
DeleteNice pics, expecting mine this afternoon the 26th of july.
ReplyDeleteMine never came.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone had an issue with the led lights not working my 1989 batmobile rear passenger tail lights were working then ka put nothing I've looked all over the net and found nothing
